Just the two of us set forth from North Cheam bound for Ruxley Lane; by Horton Park idle chatter turned not unnaturally to the way back from Leatherhead next Thursday. After Stokesheath experimently we tested Cobham Hospital(back of - um?) then Sainsburys(back door - much better!).
Eventually we were a dozen and nine exited the way we'd come. With just 20 miles between 11s and tea I decided to improvise. So first was Wisley aerodrome but after a rethink we tacked to RHS en route for West Byfleet. The Basingstoke got us to Woking town centre then it was main road through Horsell. Chobham twice in the last ten days was reason enough for a left before the Castle. This gave us a chance to essay the two fords (Lovelands Lane and Watery Lane) - no takers despite record October temperatures!
The cry of "40 minute wait" in the Four Horseshoes caused an exodus to the Red Lion where it was roast or nought so most went hungry. Near to Addlestone and over the Meads led to Chertsey Bridge thence a helpful breeze pushed us to Walton Arts Centre where two pots (plus refills and cakes) helped us rehydrate. 55 miles door to door.
